Disney star Miley Cyrus has signed on to star in a dramatic new film about family and romance in a bid to heighten her appeal among adult audiences. The 15-year-old Hannah Montana actress will star in a forthcoming film written especially for her by Nicolas Sparks - who penned The Notebook, inspiring the 2004 Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling-starring love story.

Sparks reportedly agreed to write an untitled novel and simultaneously work on a screenplay adaptation for the film, to be executive produced by Cyrus’ mother, Tish. (oh no!)

He says, “Certain opportunities garner your interest, and this was one of those. I met Miley and her family, they are terrific people, and they were very familiar with the work I’ve done in the past. That played a role in this project coming together.”

The new novel is scheduled to hit shelves next Autumn.
